The journalistic comic story centres around the idea that much of what we experience today as Western music and design rests on African culture. Which roots were obscured by colonial violence and the way Indigenous and African American cultures were repeatedly “discovered” and repackaged by Western artists. The project depicts a timeline of reference and connection between makers and shows how African visual motifs and rhythmic practices travelled from Africa to the Americas, fed into jazz, blues, rock, and hip‑hop, eventually tapping into global pop. While African‑inspired forms migrated into modern art and graphic design.
